No 6 seed Brenda Fruhvirtova won against Russian Ekaterina Makarova 6-0, 7-5 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Makarska Open on Thursday.
Fruhvirtova, ranked No 89, will face the winner of the match between Chinese Xiyu Wang, the No 4 seed, and Croat Lucija Ciric Bagaric next.
Ahead of her victory, Brenda Fruhvirtova defeated Swiss Simona Waltert (6-2, 6-3).
Makarova, ranked No 172, benefited from the abandonment of Julia Avdeeva (6-2, 5-0) in the previous round.
