Madrid Open: Sherif reaches third round
Mayar Sherif won against Anhelina Kalinina 6-2, 7-6 (3) on Thursday and will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 5 seed, and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva in the next round

Egyptian Mayar Sherif won against Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, the No 30 seed, 6-2, 7-6 (3) to advance to the third round of the Madrid Open at the Caja Magica on Thursday.
Sherif, ranked No 59, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 5 seed, and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva next.
Ahead of her victory, the Egyptian benefited from the abandonment of Italian Camila Giorgi (4-6, 6-4).
