Madrid Open: Sakkari beats Vekic to reach third round
The Greeek will face the winner of the match between Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 28 seed, and American Sloane Stephens in the next round

Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 5 seed, moved into the third round of the Madrid Open by defeating Croat Donna Vekic 6-3, 6-2 at the Caja Magica on Thursday.
This was her fourth win in 10 career meetings against Vekic.
Sakkari, ranked No 6, will face the winner of the match between Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 28 seed, and American Sloane Stephens next.
In the previous round of the Madrid tournament, Vekic, ranked No 38, won against German qualifier Laura Siegemund (6-1, 6-2).
