Madrid Open: Ostapenko books spot in last 16

Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 9 seed, won against Argentinian qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle 6-3, 6-3 to move into the last 16 of the Madrid Open at the Caja Magica on Saturday afternoon.
Ostapenko, ranked No 10, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 32 seed, and Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 8 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Madrid tournament, the Latvian beat Spanish qualifier Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (6-3, 6-1).
Carle, ranked No 82, won against wildcard Emma Raducanu (6-2, 6-2) and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 17 seed (6-4, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament.
