Madrid Open: Ostapenko advances to third round
The former French Open champ will face Argentine qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle or Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 17 seed, in the next round

Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 9 seed, reached the third round of the Madrid Open by winning against Spanish qualifier Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-3, 6-1 at the Caja Magica on Thursday afternoon.
Ostapenko, ranked No 10, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 17 seed, next.
Bouzas Maneiro, ranked No 93, defeated Paula Badosa (2-6, 6-3, 6-3) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.
