Madrid Open: Martic advances to quarter-finals, possible meeting with Swiatek
Petra Martic defeated Barbora Krejcikova 6-3, 7-6 (1) on Monday evening. She’ll play the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 16 seed, in the next round
Croat Petra Martic, the No 27 seed, won against Czech Barbora Krejcikova, the No 11 seed, 6-3, 7-6 (1) to move into the last eight of the Madrid Open at the Caja Magica on Monday.
Martic, ranked No 33, will play the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 16 seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament, the Croat beat German qualifier Laura Siegemund (7-6 (6), 6-3) and Russian Anna Kalinskaya (6-3, 4-6, 6-3).
Krejcikova, ranked No 12, defeated Montenegrin Danka Kovinic (6-3, 4-6, 6-0) and Chinese Xiyu Wang (6-4, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
