Filipino wildcard Alexandra Eala edged out Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the Madrid Open at the Caja Magica on Tuesday.
Eala, ranked No 170, will play No 27 seed Sorana Cirstea next.
