Madrid Open: Alexandrova makes round of 32
Ekaterina Alexandrova won against Alize Cornet 7-6 (2), 6-3 on Friday and will face Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 22 seed, in the next round
Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 16 seed, beat Frenchwoman Alize Cornet 7-6 (2), 6-3 to move into the round of 32 at the Madrid Open at the Caja Magica on Friday.
Alexandrova, ranked No 17, will play Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 22 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Madrid tournament, Cornet, ranked No 71, won against Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-3).
