Defending champion Jabeur pulls out of Madrid Open with “small tear” in her calf
The Tunisian suffered the injury in Stuttgart last week
Ons Jabeur‘s injury-hit season continues.
The Tunisian, who reached two Grand Slam finals in 2022, will miss the defence of her Madrid Open title this week after tests revealed she has a “small tear” in her left calf.
Jabeur suffered the injury in the semi-finals in Stuttgart last week and though she’d hoped to play in Madrid, the event will come too soon, as she revealed on social media on Monday.
Jabeur had “minor” knee surgery in February but said she was almost fully recovered, only to suffer this knew injury in Stuttgart.
The former world No 2 will now take time to recover before deciding her next move. She could return next month for the Italian Open, but the priority will be to arrive in Paris fully fit for Roland-Garros, which begins on May 28.
