American Parks beats Zanevska to reach first WTA Tour final
Alycia Parks defeated Maryna Zanevska 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Saturday and will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the top seed, and Colombian Camila Osorio in the final
American Alycia Parks achieved another milestone in her burgeoning career as she beat Belgian Maryna Zanevska 6-3, 7-6 (4) to advance to the Lyon Open, her first on the WTA Tour.
Parks, ranked No 79, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the top seed, and Colombian Camila Osorio next.
The 22-year-old American defeated Austrian Julia Grabher (6-3, 5-7, 6-4), Croat Petra Martic, the No 4 seed (2-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2) and Montenegrin Danka Kovinic, the No 7 seed (7-5, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Lyon tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Zanevska, ranked No 93, won against Hungarian Dalma Galfi (6-1, 7-6 (3)), Chinese Shuai Zhang, the second seed (6-2, 6-0) and Russian Anastasia Potapova, the No 5 seed (3-6, 6-1, 6-2).
