Daria Saville reaches Granby final as Marta Kostyuk withdraws
Daria Saville benefited from the forfeit of Marta Kostyuk on Friday night. She’ll play the winner of the match between Russian Daria Kasatkina, the top seed, and Frenchwoman Diane Parry for the title
Australia’s Daria Saville, the No 9 seed, advanced to the final of the Les Championnats Banque Nationale de Granby after her semi-final opponent Marta Kostyuk, the No 10 seed, withdrew after both scored semi-final wins on Thursday.
Saville, ranked No 73, had defeated Spain’s Nuria Parrizas Diaz 6-3, 6-2 in quarter-final action on Thursday while Kostyuk scored a three-set win over Canada’s Rebecca Marino 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
However, the long week for Kostyuk, who also needed three sets to beat Marina Stakusic (6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-1) earlier in the week took its tool and the Ukrainian withdrew due to a shoulder injury.
Saville will now face the winner of Friday’s semi-final clash between Russian Daria Kasatkina, the top seed, and French teen Diane Parry next. The former world No 20 is through to her fifth singles final on the tour and will be aiming for her second career singles title on Saturday.
