Lausanne Open: Waltert through to quarter-finals

Simona Waltert edged out Cristina Bucsa 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 on Wednesday afternoon and will face the winner of the match between Serb qualifier Olga Danilovic and Russian Anna Kalinskaya in the next round

Swiss wildcard Simona Waltert edged out Spanish qualifier Cristina Bucsa 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 to reach the last eight of the Lausanne Open at Tennis Club du Stade-Lausanne on Wednesday afternoon.

Waltert, ranked No 154, will play the winner of the match between Serb qualifier Olga Danilovic and Russian Anna Kalinskaya next.

In the previous round of the Lausanne, the 21-year-old Swiss edged out American Danielle Collins, the top seed (6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-6 (6)).

Bucsa, ranked No 126, beat French wildcard Kristina Mladenovic (6-4, 7-6 (3)) in the first round of the Lausanne.
