Lausanne Open: Potapova reaches semi-finals

Anastasia Potapova beat Jule Niemeier 6-4, 6-2 on Friday. She’ll face the winner of the match between Swiss wildcard Simona Waltert and Serb qualifier Olga Danilovic in the next round

Russian Anastasia Potapova moved into the last 4 of the Lausanne Open by beating German Jule Niemeier 6-4, 6-2 at Tennis Club du Stade-Lausanne on Friday.

Potapova, ranked No 79, will face the winner of the match between Swiss wildcard Simona Waltert and Serb qualifier Olga Danilovic next.

The 21-year-old Russian edged out Italian Lucia Bronzetti (6-2, 3-6, 6-4) and won against Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the Lausanne, Niemeier, ranked No 109, defeated Swiss Ylena In-Albon (7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-3) and qualifier Eva Lys (6-4, 6-2).
