Lausanne Open: Garcia makes last four

Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 6 seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Lausanne Open by beating Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo, the No 4 seed, 6-4, 6-1 at Tennis Club du Stade-Lausanne on Friday afternoon.

Garcia, ranked No 48, will face the winner of the match between Croat Petra Martic and Swiss Belinda Bencic, the second seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the Frenchwoman won against Italian Jasmine Paolini (6-3, 6-3) and qualifier Leolia Jeanjean (6-1, 6-4).

Sorribes Tormo, ranked No 43, defeated American Lauren Davis (6-2, 7-6 (1)) and Frenchwoman Clara Burel (6-4, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
