Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the second seed, beat Argentinian Julia Riera 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Ladies Open Lausanne.
Cocciaretto, ranked No 42, will face Russian Elina Avanesyan, the No 8 seed, next.
In the previous round, the 22-year-old Italian won against Swiss wildcard Celine Naef (3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2).
Riera, ranked No 143, defeated Romanian Patricia Maria Tig (6-2, 6-1) in the 32.
