La Bisbal d’Emporda Open: Sonmez moves into quarter-finals

Qualifier Zeynep Sonmez advanced to the quarter-finals of the La Bisbal d’Emporda Open when German Eva Lys retired on Wednesday afternoon at the Club Esportiu CT La Bisbal in La Bisbal d’Emporda.
Sonmez, ranked No 167, led 6-0, 3-1 when Lys, ranked No 149, pulled out at the Club Esportiu CT La Bisbal in La Bislab d’Emporda on Wednesday.
Zeynep Sonmez will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Marina Bassols Ribera, the No 7 seed, and Hungarian Dalma Galfi next.
In the previous round of the La Bisb d’Emporda tournament, Sonmez edged out Spanish wildcard Guiomar Maristany Zuleta De Reales (1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4).
The 22-year-old German won against Frenchwoman Oceane Dodin, the second seed (6-4, 6-1) in the first round.
