Canadian Rebecca Marino, the second seed, reached the quarter-finals of the L & T Mumbai Open by edging out Indian wildcard Ankita Raina 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (5) on Thursday.
Marino, ranked No 103, will play Japanese Mai Hontama next.
Ahead of her victory, the 34-year-old Canadian won against Sara Bejlek (6-0, 6-2).
Raina, ranked No 297, defeated wildcard Vaishnavi Adkar (6-2, 6-2) in the previous round.
