Ksenia Efremova to miss Roland-Garros and Wimbledon with injury
The prodigious teenage talent is one of the most exciting young prospects in the women’s game, but is set to miss out of 2024’s big summer of tennis
Talented youngster Ksenia Efremova has revealed that she will miss most of this summer’s competitive action due to an elbow injury that she’s been struggling with since the start of the year.
“I wanted to let you know that I will not be able to play for some time and will notably miss Roland-Garros (my home Grand Slam) and Wimbledon this year”, Efremova wrote in an Instagram post to fans.
Still only 15 years old, Efremova is viewed as one of the most exciting young prospects in the sport. Born in Moscow, Efremova moved to Nice in 2019 with her family and started training at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy later that same year.
“After struggling in Australia with a pain in my elbow I have to stop playing tennis for 4 months. The good news are that it will be completely healed afterwards, but it takes this amount of time and I have to accept it,” she continued.
“I will come back stronger to do big things in this life and to show that Tennis is not just a sport.”
Efremova switched nationalities from Russian to French in September 2023, meaning that this summer would have marked her first appearance at a home Grand Slam, as well as offering the opportunity to represent France in the Olympics in Paris.
