Korea Open: 170th-ranked Polina Kudermetova through to quarter-finals

Russia’s Polina Kudermetova defeated Liechtensteiner Kathinka von Deichmann 6-3, 6-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the Hana Bank Korea Open on Wednesday.
Kudermetova, ranked No 170 in the world and sister of world No 16 Veronika Kudermetova, will play the winner either countrywoman Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 3 seed, or Belgian Yanina Wickmayer next. This will be the first WTA-level quarter-final for the youngster.
The 20-year-old Russian won against American Alycia Parks, the No 6 seed (3-6, 6-1, 6-0) in the previous round of the Seoul tournament whereas von Deichmann, ranked No 343, benefited from the retirement of Russian lucky loser Irina Khromacheva (5-7, 6-4, 3-0).
