Korea Open: Kudermetova into last four
Veronika Kudermetova beat Viktoriya Tomova 7-5, 6-3 on Saturday and will face Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 3 seed, next
Russian Veronika Kudermetova advanced to the semi-finals of the Korea Open by beating Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova 7-5, 6-3 at the Olympic Park Tennis Center in Seoul on Saturday.
Kudermetova and Tomova began the match on a competitive note, breaking each other back and forth toward the latter half of the first set. The Russian, however, edged out with one extra break of serve.
In the second set, Kudermetova raised her level and converted two more break points on the Bulgarian’s serve to claim the match in less than two hours.
Kudermetova, ranked No 44, will play Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 3 seed, next.
The Russian won against Chinese Shuai Zhang (6-4, 6-3) and second seed Liudmila Samsonova (6-4, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Tomova, ranked No 54, won against German Tatjana Maria (6-2, 1-6, 6-0) and American Amanda Anisimova (7-5, 4-1 ret.).
