Japan Open: Top seed Zhu to meet American teen Krueger in final
The top seed defeated Xinyu Wang 7-5, 7-6 (6) on Saturday to advance to the final in Osaka
Top seed Lin Zhu moved into the final of the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships by winning against No 3 seed Xinyu Wang 7-5, 7-6 (6) on Saturday.
Zhu, ranked No 35 in the world, will face American teen Ashlyn Krueger next. The 19-year-old Krueger scored a win over Mai Hontama in the first semi-final of the day.
Zhu will be playing in the second WTA final of her career, after winning in Hua Hin earlier this season while Krueger is into her first WTA level final.
Ahead of her win today, Zhu defeated Xiyu Wang (6-4, 6-4), Japanese wildcard Moyuka Uchijima (6-4, 4-6, 6-1) and American qualifier Elizabeth Mandlik (6-3, 6-2).
Wang, ranked No 39, won against Swiss Jil Teichmann (7-6 (3), 6-3), Japanese qualifier Himeno Sakatsume (6-4, 6-2) and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 6 seed (7-6 (4), 6-7 (1), 6-3) in the previous rounds.
