Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the No 5 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships by edging out Chinese Yue Yuan (6-4, 3-6, 7-5) on Monday.
Podoroska, ranked No. 71, will face the winner of the match between Japanese wildcard Mai Hontama and Su Jeong Jang next.
