American Ashlyn Krueger won the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships tournament by beating Chinese Lin Zhu, the top seed, 6-3, 7-6 (6) on Sunday night.
Ahead of her victory, Krueger, ranked No 123, defeated Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl, the No 8 seed (6-2, 6-3), Frenchwoman Jessika Ponchet (6-4, 6-1), Russian Anna Kalinskaya (6-3, 6-1) and Japanese wildcard Mai Hontama (6-3, 6-3).
Zhu, ranked No 35, beat Xiyu Wang (6-4, 6-4), Japanese wildcard Moyuka Uchijima (6-4, 4-6, 6-1), American qualifier Elizabeth Mandlik (6-3, 6-2) and No 3 seed Xinyu Wang (7-5, 7-6 (6)) in the previous rounds.
