Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships: Hontama reaches semi-finals

Japanese wildcard Mai Hontama won against Dutch qualifier Arianne Hartono 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-1 to move into the semi-finals of the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships on Friday night.
Hontama, ranked No 176, will play American Ashlyn Krueger next.
The Japanese defeated Su Jeong Jang (7-5, 0-6, 6-2) and Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the No 5 seed (6-3, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Hartono, ranked No 191, won against Japanese wildcard Misaki Doi (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) and Hungarian Panna Udvardy (6-2, 6-0).
