Japan Open: Local wildcard Hontama upsets fifth seed Podoroska to reach quarters
The Japanese will play the winner of the match between Dutch qualifier Arianne Hartono and Hungarian Panna Udvardy in the next round

Japanese wildcard Mai Hontama advanced to the last eight of the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships by defeating Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the No 5 seed, 6-3, 6-3 on Wednesday.
Hontama, ranked No 176, will face the winner of the match between Dutch qualifier Arianne Hartono and Hungarian Panna Udvardy next.
The Japanese won against Su Jeong Jang (7-5, 0-6, 6-2) in the previous round.
In the 32, Podoroska, ranked No 71, edged out Chinese Yue Yuan (6-4, 3-6, 7-5).
