Kerber advances to second round of Bad Homburg Open

Former world No 1 and three-time Major champion Angelique Kerber has advanced to the second round of the Bad Homburg Open by beating Russian qualifier Anastasia Gasanova in straight sets at Bad Hombourg on Tuesday afternoon.
Kerber, seeded third, won 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and 20 minutes and will next face Italian Lucia Bronzetti in the second round. Bronzetti had advanced when her opponent Kaja Juvan retired while trailing 4-7, 7-5, 2-0.
