Karolina Muchova undergoes wrist surgery and will be out indefinitely
World No 10 Karolina Muchova has undergone surgery on her right wrist.
Karolina Muchova had a 2023 season full of breakthroughs, making her first major final at Roland-Garros in June and reaching the semi-final at the US Open in September. But those successes have come at a cost.
Out with a wrist injury since last September, Muchova has elected to have surgery on her right wrist. She broke the news on Tuesday, leaving a message on Instagram to let the world know her rehab process is getting started:
“Wrist upgrade: completed; Rehab challenge? Accepted,” she wrote, adding:
“Following my injury at the US Open and an extensive rehabilitation phase, it turned out that a medical intervention was necessary. So here I am, tired and sad, but I know I’ll be okay now. The surgery was successful and I’m gonna do all I can to see you on the court again soon.”
Muchova has had her fair share of injury struggles over the last three seasons. She suffered from abdominal issues that forced her to miss large chunks of time in 2021 and 2022, then suffered an ankle injury at Roland-Garros in 2022 that set her back again.
During the last year’s run to the final in Paris, and her subsequent run at the US Open, Muchova demonstrated that she can be an elite talent in the women’s game if she can maintain good health.
She cracked the top 10 for the first time last August and topped out at No 8 in September last year.
