Jiangxi Open: Siniakova reaches semi-finals as Siegemund withdraws
The Czech will play the winner of the match between Canadian Leylah Fernandez and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich for a place in the final
Czech woman Katerina Siniakova advanced to the semi-finals of the Jiangxi Open after German Laura Siegemund withdrew before their quarter-final match on Friday at Nanchang International Tennis Center.
Siniakova, ranked No 60, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Leylah Fernandez and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich next.
This was the second match scheduled for the day after both won their second round matches earlier on Friday.
Siniakova beat Chinese wildcard Yuhan Wang (6-3, 6-3) and Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-3) earlier in the tournament. She also reached the final of the Hong Kong Open last week.
Siegemund, ranked No 91, won against Chinese Xinyu Wang, the No 4 seed (6-1, 7-5) and Norwegian lucky loser Ulrikke Eikeri (6-1, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Jiangxi tournament.
