Argentinian Nadia Podoroska edged out Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, the No 5 seed, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to reach the second round of the Jasmin Open at the Skanes Family Hotel Monastir on Monday afternoon.

In a match that was as close as can be, with both women winning 109 points, Podoroska’s strong first serve under pressure and ability to punish Schmiedlova’s second serve was what made the difference ultimately.

Podoroska, ranked No 77, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Aliona Bolsova and Japanese Mai Hontama next.
