Jasmin Open: Kartal beats fellow qualifier Starodubtseva to move into last four
Sonay Kartal defeated Yulia Starodubtseva 7-6 (4), 6-2 on Friday night and will play German Eva Lys in the next round
Qualifier Sonay Kartal reached the semi-finals of the Jasmin Open by beating Ukrainian qualifier Yulia Starodubtseva 7-6 (4), 6-2 at the Skanes Family Hotel Monastir.
Kartal, ranked No 151, will face German Eva Lys next.
In the previous rounds of the Monastir tournament, Sonay Kartal edged out Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, the No 5 seed (4-6, 6-3, 7-5) and beat Japanese Mai Hontama (6-2, 6-2).
Starodubtseva, ranked No 130, edged out Dutchwoman Suzan Lamens (6-2, 3-6, 6-4) and won against Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
