“It’s been unbearable to play with the pain” – Jabeur’s knee takes her out of Dubai
The world No 6 was in tears during her match last week in Doha due to the same injury
World No 6 Ons Jabeur has been forced to pull out of this week’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships due to a right knee injury.
In a statement released, the 29-year-old said she is hopeful to be back in time for the Indians Wells and Miami events.
“Dear friends and family, I wanted to share with you all that my knee is not holding, it’s been unbearable to play with the pain and not being able to give my best on the court is frustrating,” she said. “After consultation of my doctors and team we have decided that I will have to withdraw from Dubai this week and go for more medical treatments. Looking forward to reconnect with all on the courts for the US swing. Thank you for your continuous support. Love you, Ons.”
In her opening match in Doha last week, Jabeur was seen in tears during her straight sets loss to Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko. This is the second year in a row that Jabeur’s campaign in the Mid-East, where she is very popular, has been impacted. In 2023, she was forced to pull out of Abu Dhabi, Doha and Dubai due to injury as well.
The Tunisian, who was seeded fifth in the draw, will be replaced by Spanish lucky loser Cristina Bucsa, ranked No 67 in the world.
