Alert: Swiatek wins Rome title
Iga Swiatek won the tournament on Saturday evening against Aryna Sabalenka
Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, defeated Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, 6-2, 6-3 to win the Italian Open title at the Foro Italico in Roma on Saturday evening.
Swiatek, ranked No 1, beat American qualifier Bernarda Pera (6-0, 6-2), Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (6-3, 6-4), German Angelique Kerber (7-5, 6-3), American Madison Keys, the No 18 seed (6-1, 6-3) and American Coco Gauff, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Rome tournament, Sabalenka, ranked No 2, beat American qualifier Katie Volynets (4-6, 6-3, 6-2), Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the No 32 seed (6-4, 6-2), Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 16 seed (4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7)), Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 9 seed (6-2, 6-4) and American Danielle Collins, the No 13 seed (7-5, 6-2).
