Italian Open: Rybakina moves into fourth round after Kalinskaya retirement
Elena Rybakina benefited from the abandonment of Anna Kalinskaya (4-3) on Sunday and will face Czech Marketa Vondrousova in the next round
Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 7 seed, advanced to the fourth round of the Italian Open when Russian Anna Kalinskaya retired at the Foro Italico in Rome on Sunday.
Rybakina, ranked No 6, led 4-3 when Kalinskaya, ranked No 57, pulled out at the Foro Italico in Rome on Sunday evening.
The Kazakh will play Czech Marketa Vondrousova next.
Elena Rybakina beat Italian Jasmine Paolini (7-6 (4), 6-1) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, the Russian won against Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska (6-4, 6-2) and Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 25 seed (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).
