Italian Open: Garcia crashes out at hands of qualifier
Camila Osorio won against Caroline Garcia 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday and will play the winner of the match between Pole Magda Linette, the No 17 seed, and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 12 seed, in the next round
Colombian qualifier Camila Osorio reached the round of 16 at the Italian Open by winning against Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 5 seed, 6-4, 6-4 at the Foro Italico in Rome on Saturday.
Osorio, ranked No 100, will play the winner of the match between Pole Magda Linette, the No 17 seed, and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 12 seed, next.
The 21-year-old Colombian edged out Russian Varvara Gracheva (7-6 (4), 1-6, 7-6 (4)) and defeated Croat Petra Martic, the No 29 seed (6-4, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Rome tournament, Garcia, ranked No 4, edged out Romanian Ana Bogdan (6-4, 3-6, 7-5).
