Italian Open: Mertens advances to third round
Elise Mertens won against Katerina Siniakova 6-1, 6-4 on Friday and will play the winner of the match between Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu and French lucky loser Oceane Dodin in the next round

Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 27 seed, reached the third round of the Italian Open by winning against Katerina Siniakova 6-1, 6-4 at the Foro Italico in Rome on Friday.
Mertens, ranked No 30, will face the winner of the match between Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu and French lucky loser Oceane Dodin next.
In the previous round of the Rome tournament, Siniakova, ranked No 36, beat Italian wildcard Nuria Brancaccio (6-4, 6-2).
