Gauff fights back to beat Badosa for quarter-final spot in Rome

American Coco Gauff, the No 3 seed, advanced to the last eight of the Italian Open by winning against Spaniard Paula Badosa 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 at the Foro Italico in Rome on Monday.

Gauff, ranked No 3, will play Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 7 seed, next.

The 20-year-old American beat Pole Magdalena Frech (6-3, 6-3) and Romanian lucky loser Jaqueline Cristian (6-1, 0-6, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the Rome tournament, Badosa, ranked No 126, defeated Russian Mirra Andreeva (6-2, 6-3), American Emma Navarro, the No 21 seed (1-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Russian Diana Shnaider (5-7, 6-4, 6-4).
