Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu advanced to the third round of the Italian Open when French lucky loser Oceane Dodin retired at the Foro Italico in Rome on Friday.
Begu, ranked No 161, led 5-2 when Dodin, ranked No 73, pulled out on Friday afternoon at the Foro Italico in Rome.
The 33-year-old Romanian will play Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 27 seed, next.
Irina-Camelia Begu edged out Spanish qualifier Rebeka Masarova (5-7, 6-3, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
