Indian Wells WTA: Vekic ends Navarro’s run

Croat Donna Vekic, the No 19 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Indian Wells WTA 1000 by beating American Emma Navarro, the No 10 seed, 7-6 (5), 6-1 in California on Monday night.

Vekic, ranked No 22, will play American Madison Keys, the No 5 seed, next.

The Croat won against Armenian Elina Avanesyan (6-3, 6-3) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round of the Indian Wells tournament, Navarro, ranked No 8, edged out Romanian Sorana Cirstea (3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3)).
