Indian Wells: Wildcard Stearns into second round, meets former champ Andreescu next
The former NCAA champion defeated Rebeka Masarova 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday

American wildcard Peyton Stearns edged out Spanish qualifier Rebeka Masarova 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Thursday.
This was the first WTA 1000 level win for Stearns, who is a former NCAA champion.
Stearns, ranked No 126 in the world, will play No 32 seed and former champion Bianca Andreescu, of Canada, next.
