Indian Wells: Raducanu scores biggest win since US Open run to reach last 16
The former US Open champion will face the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and Canadian Bianca Andreescu, the No 32 seed, in the next round
Emma Raducanu, whose preparations coming into this week had been hampered by a wrist injury and a bout of tonsilitis, scored her biggest win since her US Open title run after beating Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 13 seed, to move into the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open.
The 20-year-old Brit, who is now ranked 77th in the world, needed two hours and 20 minutes to beat Haddad Maia 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 at Indian Wells for her first ever three-set win over a top 50 ranked player.
This is only the second time since that 2021 US Open run that Raducanu has won three matches in a row at the same event on the tour.
The Brit beat Montenegrin Danka Kovinic (6-2, 6-3) and Pole Magda Linette, the No 20 seed (7-6 (3), 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
She will play the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and Canadian Bianca Andreescu, the No 32 seed, next.
