Indian Wells: Pegula battles past Potapova to set up Kvitova clash in last 16
The American defeated Anastasia Potapova 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 on Sunday
American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed, edged out Russian Anastasia Potapova, the No 26 seed, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to move into the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Sunday.
Pegula, ranked No 3 in the world, will next face two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, the No 15 seed, for a place in the quarter-finals.
In the previous round of the tournament, the American won against Italian Camila Giorgi (3-6, 6-1, 6-2).
Potapova, ranked No 28 in the world, had defeated Chinese Xiyu Wang (4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2) in the second round of the Indian Wells tournament.
