Indian Wells: Muchova beats Vondrousova to reach quarter-finals, plays Rybakina next
The Czech defeated countrywoman Marketa Vondrousova 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-4 on Tuesday
Karolina Muchova reached the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells by edging out fellow Czech Marketa Vondrousova 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-4 on Tuesday.
Muchova, ranked No 76, will face Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 10 seed, who defeated Russian qualifier Varvara Gracheva 6-3, 6-0.
Karolina Muchova won against Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (6-3, 4-6, 6-4), Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 14 seed (7-6 (1), 6-3) and Italian Martina Trevisan, the No 23 seed (6-4, 3-6, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Vondrousova, ranked No 105 in the world, defeated Canadian Rebecca Marino (6-2, 6-2), No 28 seed Marie Bouzkova (6-1, 6-1) and Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 4 seed (7-6 (5), 6-4).
