Indian Wells: Gauff wins battle of teens, meets Peterson in last 16
The American defeated Czech teen Linda Noskova 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday
American Coco Gauff, the No 6 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells by defeating fellow teen Linda Noskova 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday.
Gauff, who turns 19 years old on Monday, defeated the 17-year-old Noskova in one hour and 18 minutes, hitting seven aces and saving the only break point she faced against her serve.
The American, ranked No 6, will play Swede Rebecca Peterson next.
Ahead of her victory, the 18-year-old American had won against Spanish qualifier Cristina Bucsa (6-2, 6-4).
Noskova, ranked No 54, beat Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu (7-6 (7), 6-1) and American Amanda Anisimova, the No 31 seed (7-6 (6), 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Indian Wells tournament.
