Emma Raducanu is to be offered enhanced security by the WTA at this year’s Indian Wells, following the Briton’s recent ordeal with a stalker.

Raducanu was left in tears on court in Dubai as she spotted a man in the crowd during her match against Karolina Muchova. It later transpired that the individual in question had followed Raducanu across several countries and approached her in a hotel, where he took her picture and handed Raducanu a letter.

He was given a restraining order after the 22-year-old chose not to press charges.

Raducanu has not played since this incident, but it is understood that she is planning to fly to the US to compete in the prestigious tournament at Indian Wells – a 1000-level event.

In the wake of Raducanu’s stalking ordeal, the WTA reiterated that they can provide enhanced security if a player has been the target of a credible threat. As such, up to five extra security guards will be offered to the Briton at the upcoming Californian tournament.

The WTA’s full-time security arm is led by former US Secret Service agent Bob Campbell, who will be ensuring the correct protection is offered to Raducanu ahead of the event.

Indian Wells is due to start on March 5, with the 2021 US Open champion receiving direct entry to the main draw due to her ranking of 55th in the world.
