Indian Wells WTA 1000: Samsonova through to third round

Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 24 seed, won against American Catherine McNally 7-6 (8), 6-4 to move into the third round of the Indian Wells WTA 1000 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Saturday.

Samsonova, ranked No 25, will play Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 12 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Indian Wells tournament, McNally, ranked No 491, benefited from the abandonment of Australian qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic (6-4).
