In-form Jabeur into Berlin final, past Gauff in straight sets
Ons Jabeur beat Coco Gauff 7-6 (4), 6-2 on Saturday afternoon. She’ll play Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 8 seed, in the final
Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, the top seed, moved into the final of the Berlin Open by winning against American Coco Gauff, the No 7 seed, 7-6 (4), 6-2 at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club on Saturday.
The 27-year-old has now reached the final in three out of her last four tournaments – with Roland-Garros the only exception, where she lost in a first-round upset to Magda Linette. Prior to that, she won the title in Madrid (beating Jessica Pegula in the final), and lost to Iga Swiatek in Rome (6-2, 6-2).
The world No 4 will face Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 8 seed, for the title – an opponent to whom she lost in the Charleston final back in April, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.
The Tunisian beat Czech Karolina Muchova (6-3, 6-3), American qualifier Alycia Parks (6-2, 7-6 (8)) and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Gauff, ranked No 13, won against Ann Li (6-2, 7-6 (2)), Chinese qualifier Xinyu Wang (6-0, 6-4) and Czech Karolina Pliskova, the No 4 seed (7-5, 6-4).
