Argentinian Julia Riera, the No 6 seed, beat Russian Ekaterina Makarova 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to move into the quarter-finals of the IEB + Argentina Open on Thursday evening.
Riera, ranked No 112, will face Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 3 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 22-year-old Argentinian won against Serb Nina Stojanovic (6-4, 6-4).
Makarova, ranked No 200, edged out Romanian Miriam Bulgaru (3-6, 6-4, 7-5) in the previous round.
