Russian lucky loser Maria Timofeeva won against Slovenian qualifier Kaja Juvan 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the last 4 of the Hungarian Open at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest on Friday.
Timofeeva, ranked No 246, will play the winner of the match between Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the No 9 seed, and Russian Elina Avanesyan, the No 6 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the 19-year-old Russian edged out Australian Daria Saville (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) and defeated Diana Shnaider (6-1, 6-1).
Juvan, ranked No 169, beat Slovak Kristina Kucova (7-5, 6-2) and Australian qualifier Astra Sharma (6-2, 4-6, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Budapest tournament.
