Russian lucky loser Maria Timofeeva has reached the final of the Hungarian Open by winning against Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the No 9 seed, 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-3 at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest.
Timofeeva, ranked No 246, will play the winner of the match between American Claire Liu and Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl next.
Ahead of her victory, the 19-year-old Russian beat Australian Daria Saville (2-6, 6-3, 6-4), Diana Shnaider (6-1, 6-1) and Slovenian qualifier Kaja Juvan (3-6, 6-3, 6-2).
Podoroska, ranked No 80, won against Australian Storm Hunter (1-6, 6-1, 6-1), qualifier Anna Siskova (6-3, 6-0) and Russian Elina Avanesyan, the No 6 seed (6-1, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Budapest tournament.
