Hungarian Open: Shnaider beats Seidel to move into semi-finals
Diana Shnaider beat Ella Seidel 6-4, 6-2. She’ll face the winner of the match between Slovak Rebecca Sramkova and German Eva Lys in the next round
Russian Diana Shnaider, the top seed, beat German lucky loser Ella Seidel 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals of the Hungarian Open at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest.
Shnaider, ranked No 28, will play the winner of the match between Slovak Rebecca Sramkova and German Eva Lys next.
The 20-year-old Russian edged out Hungarian wildcard Fanny Stollar (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) and won against qualifier Ekaterina Makarova (6-3, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Budapest tournament, Seidel, ranked No 166, benefited from the abandonment of Japanese Moyuka Uchijima, the No 7 seed (6-1, 1-0) and won against Hungarian Anna Bondar (7-5, 7-5).
